3 Classic Rock Bands That Formed in the 1980s Whose Melodies Still Echo Decades Later

While the 1980s are long in the rear-view mirror, there are still several bands from back in the day that impact mainstream culture even now. And that’s just what we wanted to dive into here below. We wanted to highlight three groups from the bygone era that we still listen to regularly. We love their songs, their albumsโ€”heck, we dig their overall attitude. Indeed, these are three classic rock bands that formed in the 1980s whose melodies still echo decades later.

Nirvana

While most grunge fans associate Nirvana with the 1990s, the group actually released its debut album, Bleach, in 1989. The record, which was recorded in just a few days for a few hundred dollars by Jack “The Grungefather” Endino, helped to establish Kurt Cobain and company as one of the best up-and-coming bands in the Pacific Northwest. Then two years later, Nirvana released the iconic album Nevermind, and they became the biggest band on the planet. Grunge also became the dominant rock subgenre of the moment. But it all got started in the late 1980s.

Metallica

Today, Metallica is considered one of the greatest bands ever. The Los Angeles-born group helped to popularize heavy metal, starting way back in the early 1980s. Their brand of looming, hefty, brooding music influenced millions and helped to spread the word of the dark sonic arts. Led by singer James Hetfield and drummer Lars Ulrich, Metallica is still wowing audiences now, touring, releasing music, and continuing their legacy as the big brothers of metal. But it all got started decades ago in 1981. A few years later, Metallica released their debut LP, Kill ‘Em All, in 1983. And the rest, as they say, is history!

Red Hot Chili Peppers

Red Hot Chili Peppers is one of those bands that took time to round into shape. While the group got going in 1982 and released their self-titled debut LP in 1984, RHCP didn’t become a household name until several years later in the decade. But once they hit the mainstream, RHCP remained in popular culture. They’ve never left our consciousness. Whether the outfit was performing on stage in only tube socks or singing about a difficult life under a bridge, RHCP remains a fan favorite today!
