3 Classic Rock Songs Most People Learn Before They Turn 10

Some rock songs you just learn before your 10th birthday. Perhaps it’s because they’re so popular. Perhaps it’s because they’re so good. Or perhaps the songs have something to them that’s just that essential. Whatever it is, we hear them young.

But that’s just what we wanted to explore here below. We wanted to highlight three songs from back in the day that most people learn at an early age. Indeed, these are three classic rock songs most people learn before they turn 10.

“Louie Louie” by The Kingsmen from ‘The Kingsmen In Person’ (1963)

One of the reasons people learn this song so early on is because it’s so simpleโ€”only three chords comprise the body of this track. But the classic rock number from 1963 was also at the center of the cultural zeitgeist in its heyday. Many parents at the time feared the song, thinking its slurred lyrics had something to do with the devil or black magic or drugs or something else sinister like that. Of course, they didn’t. But for all those reasons, “Louie Louie” by The Kingsmen is one of those songs most people learn in their youth.

“Born In The U.S.A.” by Bruce Springsteen from ‘Born In The U.S.A.’ (1984)

Once you hear this song even once, it sticks in your head. If you were born in America, it’s hard not to perk up when this track comes on the classic rock radio station, even if you’re just seven, eight, or nine years old. Bruce Springsteen has one of those voices that cuts through the silence. And when he belts out the chorus about being born in the U.S.A.? Well, brains aren’t strong enough to forget his powerful message. Immediately, his sound is emblazoned on your psyche.

“Surfin’ U.S.A.” by The Beach Boys from ‘Surfin’ U.S.A.’ (1963)

Like Bruce’s song above, this track has a lot to do with America. But even more than the homage to the U.S.A., what young kids respond to on this tune are the harmonies. They are like sunshine. It’s impossible not to recognize that, even if you’re elementary school age. The Beach Boys make your ears open up, and your mind remembers. Then you picture all those surfboards, that blue waterโ€”you can’t ever forget it!
