Prince was known for his distinct voice, unique aesthetics, incredible charm, and pretty hefty discography of music. The late great singer was also a talented guitarist, and I think he deserves more credit for how good of a guitar player he was, right up until the end. Letโs take a look at a few of Princeโs finest guitar solos!
โSomething In The Water (Does Not Compute)โ
Prince had very high standards for his performances. Honestly, thereโs little evidence out there of him performing a set badly. He wanted only the best when it came to his art. And that much is clear on some of his finest guitar tracks, especially โSomething In The Water (Does Not Compute)โ from the album 1999. This incredible synced guitar solo can be heard shortly after the 2-minute mark.

โPlay That Funky Musicโ
Iโll be honest, I remember Princeโs outfit during this 2011 performance more so than the actual shredding. I was young, okay?! Those furry boots were distracting!
Now that Iโm hearing this performance with fresh adult ears, itโs really something to behold. The original guitar track on โPlay That Funky Musicโ by Wild Cherry is incredible, but Prince took it to a whole different level with his performance. For someone who was so obsessed with perfection during performances, it seems like he let go a bit and let this be more of a jam session. However, thatโs probably not even the case; he likely curated the whole thing with precision, including the guitar solo that kicks it all off. Now thatโs talent.
โWhile My Guitar Gently Weepsโ
Anyone who had to share a stage with the likes of Tom Petty, Eric Clapton, Steve Winwood, and Jeff Lynne would likely feel at least a little bit nervous. But, add on the task of delivering a sick guitar performance? I certainly wouldnโt be able to do it. And yet, Prince made it look easy with this stellar example of one of his best guitar solos.
During a live performance of โWhile My Guitar Gently Weepsโ by The Beatles with the four other above-mentioned superstar musicians, Prince steals the show with a wild solo around the 3:30 mark. Just look at everyoneโs faces; theyโre bewildered by it! I certainly would be, too.
