3 Lionel Richie Duets That Every Fan Should Revisit

In 1981, Lionel Richie released his first single on his own. While still with The Commodores, a group he co-founded in 1968 and left in 1982, Richie released โ€œEndless Loveโ€ with Diana Ross. A massive hit, the No. 1 single was on Endless Love: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack. Although โ€œEndless Loveโ€ remains among Richieโ€™s most popular duets, it isnโ€™t his only one. These are three of his best duets, even though most people have already forgotten about them.

โ€œTo Love A Womanโ€ With Enrique Iglesias

In 2003, Richie teamed up with Enrique Iglesias to release โ€œTo Love A Womanโ€. The song, written by Richie, Iglesias, and Paul Barry, is on Richieโ€™s live album, Encore. It also appears on Iglesiasโ€™s Escape record.

โ€œTo Love A Womanโ€ says, โ€œAnd I don’t mind, oh / Will she love you tomorrow like she loves you today / She can keep your heart guessing but she’s yours if she stays / And that’s what it feels like / To love a woman / To love a woman.โ€

โ€œFace In The Crowdโ€ With Trijntje Oosterhuis

Out as a single in 2008 on Richieโ€™s Just Go album, Richie sings โ€œFace In The Crowdโ€ with Dutch singer Trijntje Oosterhuis. Although Richie writes most of his songs, โ€œFace In The Crowdโ€ is written by John Ewbank.

A song about unrequited love, โ€œFace In The Crowdโ€ says, โ€œIโ€™m just a face in the crowd / You probably donโ€™t know me as I donโ€™t stand out / And Iโ€™m sure your heart doesnโ€™t beat for me, no / And when youโ€™re cold and lonely there are not my arms / You long to feel around you to keep you safe and warm / No Iโ€™m just a face in the crowd you canโ€™t see.โ€

โ€œLadyโ€ With Kenny Rogers

Richie did have one Top 10 single at country radio, with โ€œDeep River Womanโ€, a collaboration with Alabama. But he wasnโ€™t a stranger to country music. Itโ€™s Richie who penned one of Kenny Rogersโ€™s biggest hits, โ€œLadyโ€. In 2012, Richie released Tuskegee, recording some of his biggest hits with country artists. So itโ€™s understandable that he asked Rogers to join him on his own version of โ€œLadyโ€.

A tribute to a woman he loves, โ€œLadyโ€ says, โ€œLady / Iโ€™m your knight in shining armor and I love you / You have made me what I am, and / I am yours / My love / There’s so many ways I want to say I love you / Let me hold you in my arms forever more.โ€
