4 Songs by the Beatles That the Beatles Straight-up Hated

If youโ€™ve ever been in a band, youโ€™re probably more than familiar with the feeling of hating at least one of your songs. Itโ€™s an unavoidable part of being an artist. And with a discography as rich as The Beatlesโ€™, it only makes sense that there would be a few songs that the Fab Fourโ€™s members hated. Letโ€™s look at four examples! They might just surprise you.

1. โ€œDig A Ponyโ€

This track from Let It Be by The Beatles is one of many songs that John Lennon openly admitted that he hated. At the time, he was dealing with drug addiction and was more or less done with The Beatles as a band. He likely wasnโ€™t fond of a lot of the music that made it to those particular sessions. According to Lennon, he hated โ€œDig A Ponyโ€, a more or less nonsensical song that he described as โ€œa piece of garbageโ€.ย

2. โ€œHold Me Tightโ€

Paul McCartney rarely had a bad thing to say about the Fab Fourโ€™s music. However, there have been a few songs through the years that he just didnโ€™t vibe with. A song would have to be particularly bad for McCartney to even mention it, but he did mention โ€œHold Me Tightโ€. Specifically, he said that he couldnโ€™t remember very much about the song.

โ€œCertain songs were just โ€˜workโ€™ songsโ€ฆ you havenโ€™t got much of a memory of them,โ€ said McCartney. Lennon had an even worse sentiment for this track, saying it was โ€œa pretty poor song.โ€

3. โ€œMaxwellโ€™s Silver Hammerโ€

Paul McCartney notably loved this song and wanted it to be perfect. However, the band as a whole was sick of his pursuit of musical perfection, and they particularly hated โ€œMaxwellโ€™s Silver Hammerโ€. John Lennon told Playboy that he hated the song because McCartney โ€œmade [them] do it a hundred million times.โ€ Ringo Starr and George Harrison agreed that it was โ€œthe worst session ever.โ€

4. โ€œGood Morning Good Morningโ€

Yet another song that Lennon didnโ€™t love was โ€œGood Morning Good Morningโ€ from Sgt. Pepper. Itโ€™s definitely not the strongest track on that album, but Lennon was pretty raw about how much he hated it. He said that it was โ€œgarbageโ€ and simply came to be because Lennon had a song due and a Corn Flakes commercial came on.

โ€œItโ€™s a throwaway, a piece of garbage, I always thought,โ€ Lennon said in an interview in 1980. โ€œI always had the TV on very low in the background when I was writing, and it came over, and then I wrote the song.โ€
