5 Hit Rock Songs About Cheaters

If you’ve been done dirty and need to listen to a few songs to simmer in your anger, look no further! Here are five famous rock songs about cheaters to get you through your bad breakup.

1. “Better Man” by Pearl Jam

Like many of the rock songs about cheaters on this list, this song by Pearl Jam is more of a narrative story, rather than a song sung from the perspective of the cheater or the cheated-on. This grunge track is about a man who is fooling around outside of his marriage and a wife who is lying to herself about his love for her. The chorus of this song is pretty powerful, too.

2. “You Make Loving Fun” by Fleetwood Mac

Honestly, most of Rumours is about cheating, infidelity, romantic entanglements, and lost love. But we had to pick one, so we went with “You Make Loving Fun” solely because it’s a bit of an underrated track on that famous folk-rock album. 

Christine McVie penned this track about the man she was canoodling with outside of her marriage to John McVie.

3. “Hey Joe” by The Jimi Hendrix Experience

Cheating and the blues go together like two peas in a pod. This Jimi Hendrix classic puts most of the focus on Hendrix’s killer guitar-shredding skills, but the lyrics are also a point of interest. 

“Hey Joe” is about a man who finds out that his girl is cheating on him with another man. Some poor choices lead to him shooting her with a gun, and then trotting across the border before the cops can arrest him.

4. “Lyin’ Eyes” by Eagles

Well, this song didn’t age very well. But one can’t deny that it’s a classic. “Lyin’ Eyes” by Eagles is about a group of young women who are flirting with a few gentlemen of a certain age at a bar, even though the women in question are already married. 

One could look at the song as an exploration of power dynamics, but we don’t think it was intended to be that deep.

5. “You Oughta Know” by Alanis Morissette

This alternative 90s tune by Alanis Morissette is one of many stellar contributions to Jagged Little Pill. And some might not know that “You Oughta Know” is about none other than Full House’s Uncle Joey. 

Yep, that’s right: Morissette dated Dave Coulier back in the day, and she wrote this song about how he broke up with her and replaced her suspiciously fast.
