5 One-Hit Wonders From the 2000s That Deserve a Second Listen

The 2000s produced a ton of one-hit wonders that should have been bigger, as well as a few that definitely should not have gotten any more famous. These five one-hit wonders from the 2000s deserved at least more credit for their one claim to fame, in my opinion. Letโ€™s take a look!

1. Willa Ford

If you were a 90s or 00s kid, you probably werenโ€™t allowed to listen to Willa Fordโ€™s spicy hit song โ€œI Wanna Be Badโ€. But you probably did it anyway, right?

This 2001 dance-pop hit from Ford peaked at no. 22 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and ranked even higher on other US charts. Sadly, she never entered the chart again and only had moderate success with the 2003 follow-up โ€œA Toast To Menโ€.

2. Kat DeLuna

Kat DeLuna had some success with the song โ€œWhine Upโ€, but she should have become way more famous. Iโ€™ll die on this hill.

The young singer hit the charts with the dance track โ€œWhine Upโ€, where it reached no. 29 on the Hot 100. Like most one-hit wonders, she never hit that chart again, though she did have some success on the US dance and Belgian charts throughout the 2000s.

3. Blu Cantrell

“Hit ‘Em Up Style (Oops!)” by Blu Cantrell is one of those 2000s one-hit wonders that has endured the test of time, at least for fans of that eraโ€™s R&B hits. If you donโ€™t remember this song, you probably at least remember the whole debacle of her belief that Beyonce named her baby after her. What a time!

Cantrell only released two studio albums during her career, and her debut single “Hit ‘Em Up Style (Oops!)” hit no. 2 on the Hot 100. Her follow-up singles failed to chart nearly as well, sadly.

4. Shop Boyz

Remember the 2007 rap-rock hit โ€œParty Like A Rock Starโ€ by Shop Boyz? You probably at least remember โ€œyeah, t-t-t-totally, dude!โ€

While โ€œParty Like A Rockstarโ€ made it to no. 2 on the Hot 100 and became a triple-platinum hit, the rap group never entered that chart again and disbanded in 2015. However, they did get back together in 2020.

5. Yael Naim

One of many one-hit wonders from the 2000s who got famous from an Apple commercial, Yael Naimโ€™s โ€œNew Soulโ€ was used in an ad for the very first MacBook Air.

The indie folk hit โ€œNew Soulโ€ made it to no. 7 on the Hot 100, and did fairly well internationally. She enjoyed a couple of French hits after that song was released, but she never charted nearly as high again.
