Back in November, Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo celebrated the release of their newest film Wicked. Based on the book and Broadway musical, Wicked followed the story of the friendship between Glinda and Elphaba. While only part one of the film, Wicked brought in nearly $650 million since its release. And if the box office wasnโt enough, the film earned high praise from fans. But although filming is over, Grande continues to use the voice of Glinda. And according to the singer, she isnโt worried if it never leaves.ย
While spending months promoting the film alongside Ervio, Grande sat down to discuss Wicked and her voice change with Variety. Although not shying away from the change in her voice, the singer explained, โMaybe people underestimate how long we spent finding and disappearing into these women. So, when certain inflections or mannerisms take time to melt away, sometimes people poke fun. But we had a job to do, and we had things to get lost in โ because thatโs what the piece required.โ

Although some fans pointed out the change, Grande cared little about the difference. If anything, the singer hoped it stayed. โGalinda required a lot of vocal work for me. Certain things maybe wonโt melt away. Some will, but Iโm really grateful for the pieces that will stay with us forever. What a beautiful thing to be left with, and to feel the ghost of every day.โ

Ariana Grande Is “Grateful And Floating” Over ‘Wicked’
Bringing the Broadway musical to the silver screen, the entire cast was thrilled about the filmโs success. Grande insisted, โI feel so grateful and proud of how present weโve been able to be. A lot of people have come up to us and been like, โHow you holding up?โ with a long face. And weโve just peeked at each other and been like, weโre grateful and floating.โ
Outside of their time on set, both Grande and Erivo made sure their contracts matched. Erivo revealed, โWe both went through it โ โWhat number are we doing? How do you feel about that?โ We were really f**king honest. And thatโs really rare. People donโt do that.โ
As for the second part of Wicked, it is expected to hit theaters in late 2025 with fans anxiously awaiting to see the conclusion of one of the biggest films in 2024.ย
