Berklee College of Music will present American Master Awards to T Bone Burnett, as well as theย roots duo ofย Gillian Welch and David Rawlings,ย at Music City Roots, a weekly music broadcast from The Factory in Franklin, Tennessee, on March 15.
The special Tuesday night editionย will feature performances by Berklee alumni Sierra Hull, Liz Longley and Maureen Murphy, as well as a closing performance by Welch and Rawlings, both 1992ย graduates of Berklee. Burnett, an acclaimedย producer, songwriter and recording artist, has worked with both Welch and Rawlings, most notably on their first album, Revival.
Theย March 15ย show and award ceremony coincides with Berkleeโs Nashville trip, a 31-year traditionย that sends aย group of students to Music Cityย toย gain insight fromย alumni artists, songwriters, producers and engineers.ย More than 3,000 students have attended the program, including Welch and Rawlings, whoย first connected and started performingย together as a result of the trip.
โThis feels like a homecoming and a new beginning at the same time,โ said Berklee President Roger Brown in a release. โWeโre thrilled to recognize T Bone, Gillian and David for their immeasurable contributions to music here in Nashville where so many Berklee alumni have become integral to the music community, and to forge a partnership with Music City Roots, a show that is so important to the tradition of live radio.โ
The show will be webcast free via Livestream at 7 p.m. CSTย at musiccityroots.com.
