Camila Cabello took the MTV VMAs stage tonight, September 11, to perform songs from her recent album, C, XOXO. The album came out in June 2024, and earned fairly positive reviews from critics. C, XOXO leaned heavily on Cabello’s experiences growing up in Miami, often pulling from South Florida aesthetics.
Cabello started with the song “Godspeed,” singing from a glass case in the middle of the stage. Her image was broadcast on the big screen behind her as she sang while dancers in balaclavas surrounded her. The dancers took off their masks and gathered around her for a sweet conclusion to the song.

This is the first time Cabello has performed at the VMAs since 2021, when she performed her hit “Don’t Go Yet.” This performance marked her much-anticipated return to the show.

Camila Cabello Lights Up VMAs Stage With Songs from Recent Album
Additional performances include a show opener from Eminem, host Megan Thee Stallion taking the stage, pop sensations Chappell Roan and Sabrina Carpenter, plus Katy Perry’s return to live performing. She received the Video Vanguard Award tonight, and performed her classic hits like “I Kissed a Girl” and “Firework.”
Cabello is also nominated for two awards, Best Pop and Best Trending Video for “I Luv It.” In Best Pop, she’s up against some heavy hitters like Dua Lipa, Olivia Rodrigo, Sabrina Carpenter, Tate McRae, and of course Taylor Swift. While the award was not broadcast, Taylor Swift won. Additionally, Megan Thee Stallion won Best Trending Video for “Mamushi.”
Veteran VMAs attendee Swift leads the nominations with 10, and she’s poised to break the record set by Beyoncé for most ever VMAs if she wins at least five of those. Meanwhile, newcomer Chappell Roan makes the VMAs her award show debut, performing her latest hit and scoring nominations for Best New Artist and MTV PUSH Performance of the Year.
