Ronnie McDowell is speaking out. In a post to Facebook, the country singer spoke to the camera as he walked outside, marking the first time he’s addressed the public since he suffered an onstage medical issue.
“Hi folks. Yes, I had a stroke,” he confirmed. “I’ve got to get all this plaque cleared out here of my jugular. But you know what? I’m walking. Yep! I’m doing my two-mile walk.”

In addition to walking, McDowell said he’s jumping right back into performing. The singer went on to promote his sold out show in Kentucky.
“Come and see us,” he encouraged fans. “Love y’all.”
The Kentucky concert went off without a hitch, with McDowell writing on Facebook, “Thank you Kentucky for a Wonderful Evening. You all made us feel so special. We will see you again real soon….”
McDowell’s son, Ronnie McDowell Jr., also posted to Facebook following the show.
“I was definitely nervous throughout the evening, but I kept a close watch on my dad. I made sure that he was in my in ear monitor so that I could hear him good,” he wrote. “… Dad will be resting for the next two weeks.”
After his weeks of rest, McDowell is scheduled to play two shows in Memphis, Tennessee, in August.
Ronnie McDowell’s Health Scare
McDowell’s scary onstage moment happened back in June during a performance in Pennsylvania. At the time, McDowell began to slur his words and speak incoherently.
Shortly thereafter, the singer’s son, Ronnie McDowell Jr., revealed that his dad had suffered a mini stroke. The younger McDowell said that the elder one will undergo surgery in the weeks ahead, but said his dad was cleared to “perform and workout in the next few days.”
In a second update, McDowell Jr. said that his dad had “no long-term damage” as a result of the stroke.
McDowell Jr. followed that up with a post showing his dad surrounded by letters.
“My Dad called me last night and said, ‘Well Son, I think that I just picked up the most mail that I’ve ever received.’” he wrote. “He wanted me to thank you all. I could just hear this happiness in his voiceโฆ. Thank you all for always making my Legendary Dad feel So Special and Appreciatedโฆ.
Hopefully we will have a Surgery date soon. We will keep you all posted as soon as we know.”
