Fans of Courtney Barnett did not have to wait long for new music, as the Melbourne singer-songwriter released a new track, “Three Packs A Day,” on Monday. The release comes on the heels of Barnett’s widely-acclaimed album, Sometimes I Sit And Think, And Sometimes I Just Sit, which was released in March 2015.
“Three Packs A Day”—which will also be released on Feb. 14 as a part of Milk! Record’s compilation album Good For You—is a song in the same vein as Barnett’s last record. The track includes her characteristically observational lyrics (this time about her love of ramen noodles), and also features a gritty guitar hook and bluesy harmonica solo.
The success of Sometimes I Sit And Think, And Sometimes I Just Sit led to a big year for Barnett. She embarked on a lengthy tour that included performances at Bonnaroo, Pitchfork Music Festival and Newport Folk Festival.
Most recently, the album helped earn her a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist. British singer-songwriter James Bay, country star Sam Hunt, and pop singers Tori Kelly and Meghan Trainor round out the nominees for the prestigious award.
In the spring, Barnett will return to the U.S. for a tour that will include performances at Coachella Music & Arts Festival and Governors Ball.
