During the tribute concert for Toby Keith, which aired on NBC tonight, Darius Rucker was one of the country stars to perform in honor of Keith’s memory. He took the stage to deliver a rendition of Keith’s 2008 song “God Love Her.”
Rucker did an admirable job covering the rollicking song while emotions were high during the concert. “God Love Her” is a classic country tune about a teenage girl with a rebellious streak and those who love her. The speaker is supposedly the girl’s equally rebellious boyfriend, who spells out all the reasons me and God love her, as the lyrics go.

Toby Keith: American Icon was originally filmed on July 29, but has finally premiered for viewers at home to experience. Among the other performers were fellow Oklahoman Carrie Underwood, along with Eric Church, Lainey Wilson, Jelly Roll, and more. Additionally, Keith’s daughter, Krystal, gave a moving performance of “Don’t Let the Old Man In,” during which there wasn’t a dry eye in the house.

Darius Rucker Previously Honored Toby Keith with “God Love Her”
This wasn’t the first time Darius Rucker performed “God Love Her” in honor of Toby Keith. In February, following the news of Keith’s death, Rucker took the stage at the Grand Ole Opry and delivered a cover of “God Love Her.”
โWe woke up to some sad news this morning. Country music lost Toby Keith, and I wanted to do something special for Toby tonight,โย Rucker told the crowd. โItโs one of his songs, my favorite Toby Keith song. So this goes out to Toby.โ
He then launched into the cover, pouring all of his emotions into the performance. That energy is mirrored in his tribute which airs tonight, as Rucker once again got to perform his favorite Toby Keith song in honor of the man himself.
In the comments of a TikTok video showing Darius Rucker at the tribute concert, fans gathered to share their love for Rucker and Keith. “You just know he sings Toby Keith songs in his car!!” one person wrote. Another commented, “Toby would be very proud of this.”
