While attending the University of South Carolina, Darius Rucker founded Hootie & the Blowfish with classmates Mark Bryan, Jim “Soni” Sonefeld, and Dean Felber. The rock band enjoyed immense success in the ’90s, releasing three albums and three chart-topping hits. Striking out on his own, Rucker successfully crossed over into country music in 2008. Already a long way from his Charleston, South Carolina roots, the “Wagon Wheel” crooner recently announced a move to England. On Saturday (Feb. 1), Rucker, 58, hopped back on social media to answer a few lingering questions about this life change.
Darius Rucker Isn’t Gone For Good
Just a few days after confirming his move across the pond, Darius Rucker made sure his fans knew that he hasn’t forgotten his Southern roots.

“I’ve been a traveling musician all my life. I’m living in London while working on some new music and playing some shows. Always been on the bucket list — but don’t get it twisted y’all … nothing will ever replace the Carolinas and it is still home,” Rucker wrote on social media Saturday (Feb. 1.) “Thanks for believing in me and supporting my music wherever we make it! Love y’all! — DR”

London Is Home, For Now
Darius Rucker first hinted at the big move in a Jan. 21 social media post, when he shared a photo of him walking his two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. The “True Believers” hitmaker followed that picture with another of the London skyline.
“So Freddie, Larry and I are doing a thing,” he wrote. “Any guesses?”
Two days later, Rucker shared a photo of himself outside London’s Novello Theatre after enjoying a production of Mamma Mia! He made it official on Jan. 29, making a post captioned, “I can’t move to London and not play UK shows!”

In case anyone doubted his loyalties, Rucker recently repped his South Carolina Gamecocks in a Jan. 22 Instagram post. “Friendly reminder there’s only 213 days until college football is back,” he wrote in the caption.
