Bob Dylan is no stranger to the political game. Considered by many to be the greatest “protest” songwriter of all time, Dylan has never been shy when it comes to expressing his opinion about politics and civil rights. None of that has changed, as Dylan recently announced his support for Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama.

Dylanโs primary reason behind his support for the Illinois senator is his hope for change. He recently told theย London Timesย that โ[Obama] is redefining what a politician is, so weโll have to see how things play out. Am I hopeful? Yes, Iโm hopeful that things might change. Some things are going to have to.โ
Bob Dylan is not the only musician to get involved in the 2008 election. Other supporters of Obama (several of whom participated in the now famous, YouTube-hit โYes We Canโ video) include Black Eyed Peaโs Will.i.am, John Legend, Herbie Hancock, and the Boss himself, Bruce Springsteen. On the other side of the political spectrum, Ted Nugent and Burt Bacharach plan to vote Republican. Whether or not musicians will have a significant effect on the upcoming election is yet to be seen, but the recent resurgence in musician activism shows that the times really may be a-changinโ.
