With a career spanning six decades, Elton John stands in a category all by himself as he appeared to define the music industry. Throughout his time on stage, the singer sold more than 300 million albums.ย He charted more than fifty top-40 hits while receiving countless awards. He is one of few entertainers who won an Emmy Award, a Grammy Award, an Academy Award, and a Tony Award. Considered an EGOT, the icon recently celebrated another milestone that had nothing to do with his music, but his struggles with sobriety.ย
Although playing at some of the most iconic venues in the world, John struggled with substance abuse for nearly 20 years. Continuing to expand his career, the alcohol and drugs eventually caught up to the singer, who decided to fight back. And while his fight continues, John celebrated 34 years of sobriety on Wednesday. Posting a picture of his Alcoholics Anonymous coin, the singer wrote, โ34 years clean and sober. My life has never been better.โย

Elton John Went To AA Five Times A Day
It wasnโt just fans either as actress Kacey Ainsworth took a moment to add, โI do believe you were with my dad during his journey to stay sober which he did for 17 years. I had a dad who was present – other than my DNA it was the greatest gift he ever gave us. 1 day at a time xx .โย ย
Back in 2019, John spoke to Variety about how he took a year off to focus on his health and sobriety. At the time, he insisted, โI don’t think I would still be sober today if I hadn’t taken that whole year off and thrown myself into my program of recovery. At my peak during that year, I was going to as many as five meetings a day!”
Never giving up, Johnโs life eventually filled with more than drugs and alcohol as he married David Furnish. The two share children, Zachary and Elijah, together.ย
