The publishing company currently controlling Eminem’s early music catalog, Eight Mile Style, has recently sued Mark Zuckerberg’s trillion-dollar technology company, Meta, for copyright infringement. Eight Mile Style, which was co-founded by Eminem’s production team, the Bass Brothers, claims that Meta violated the copyright of 243 Eminem songs. Despite the fact that these are Eminem’s songs, he is not directly part of the ongoing lawsuit.
Specifically, EMS claims that Meta broke the copyright of these 243 songs via “unauthorized storage, reproduction and exploitation,” per People. Furthermore, according to the statements procured by People, the production company also claims that the Original Audio and Reels Remix features on Meta’s applications(such as Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp) “allow and encourage its users to steal Eight Mile Style’s music,” and have done so “without proper attribution or license.”

EMS stated that the songs in question “are some of the most valuable in the world.” Consequently, “Eight Mile Style is very protective of these iconic songs.” It is unclear which specific Eminem songs are among those 243. However, some of the more notable Eminem songs the company owns the publishing to are “Lose Yourself” and “8 Mile.”
Eight Mile Style Seeks $109 Million in Damages & a Jury Trial
As a result of the unlawful usage of these songs, EMS is requesting $150,000 for each of the 243 songs featured on Meta’s social media platforms. The total sum of damages adds up to $109,350,000. In addition, Eight Mile Style has also requested a jury trial.
Since the lawsuit was filed, Meta has removed “several of the Eight Mile compositions from its music libraries,” per CBS. According to CBS, the specific charges brought against Meta by Eight Mile Style are “copyright infringement, inducement of copyright infringement, contributory copyright infringement, and vicarious copyright infringement.”
Prior to this lawsuit, Meta inked a licensing agreement with Audiam in 2020. However, “Meta unsuccessfully negotiated an Eight Mile Style license as part of the Audiam license,” per CBS.
As of late, Eminem’s music and the ownership of it have been in the courts quite frequently. In addition to this case, Eminem and his team charged ex-employee Joseph Strange with criminal infringement of a copyright in the spring of 2025.
