If youโre getting into Fugazi and post-hardcore in general, you can basically start anywhere in their discography. Their debut record Repeater from 1990 all the way through The Argument from 2001 contain essential songs, but there are a few tracks that I would consider โessentialโ Fugazi. Letโs take a look!
1. โBlueprintโ
A killer track from the bandโs debut record, โBlueprintโ was composed by Guy Picciotto. Not only is this song a standout track from Repeater, but itโs one that stands out among the bandโs entire discography.

โBlueprintโ is on the artsier side of Fugazi, and Iโm not complaining, either. The melodies are on another level with this one. The lyrics โNever mind whatโs been selling / Itโs what youโre buying and receiving undefiledโ are simply iconic.
2. โSmallpox Championโ
Essential Fugazi songs often have a few somewhat vague elements: Aggressive, in-your-face lyricism mixed with artfully produced melodies and overall songwriting. You definitely get that package with โSmallpox Championโ from Fugaziโs 1993 album In On The Kill Taker. The start of this song almost sounds like something from Sonic Youth.
Part of what makes Fugazi so good is their ability to kick off a song with fast, chaotic movements, only to tie it together with a beautiful melody by the end. โSmallpox Championโ definitely showcases that talent.
3. โBed For The Scrapingโ
This track from Fugaziโs 1995 album Red Medicine is one of many influential tracks from that very record. Considering that album was such a commercial success, itโs also one of Fugaziโs more accessible works.
โBed For The Scrapingโ is a perfect blend of melody and noise. Iโd be bold enough to say this song is one of Fugaziโs most anthemic pieces of work.
4. โFull Disclosureโ
Essential Fugazi songs include their later works, and โFull Disclosureโ from the bandโs last record The Argument is no exception. The whole of that album is essential listening for any post-hardcore fan, but something stands out in โFull Disclosureโ.
This track has wild basslines, a souring guitar track, and an ebb and flow that can only be heard in masterful songwriting efforts. This oneโs a real gem, and itโs almost pop-adjacent. That chorus is unbelievably catchy, too.
