Every Baby Boomer Alive Remembers These 4 Classic Country Jams From 1965

Country music had a fine year in 1965, and many a baby boomer got to enjoy some of the best that the genre had to offer. If you got to hear the following four songs when they first hit the radio, I bet you still remember every word. Letโ€™s get a little nostalgic!

โ€œThere Goes My Everythingโ€ by Jack Greene from โ€˜There Goes My Everythingโ€™

This classic from Jack Greene has since become a country music standard, and I can definitely see why. This heartbreaker of a breakup tune formed the soundtrack for plenty of splits back in 1965, and those who werenโ€™t dealing with love lost loved it, too. โ€œThere Goes My Everythingโ€ peaked at No. 1 on the Hot Country Songs chart and would later be covered by the likes of Elvis Presley,  Engelbert Humperdinck, and others.

โ€œGirl On The Billboardโ€ by Del Reeves from โ€˜Girl On The Billboardโ€™

This country hit by Del Reeves was written by Hank Mills and Walter Haynes. Reeves really made it his own, though. โ€œGirl On The Billboardโ€ remains his only No. 1 hit single of his career. And what a great song to be known for. โ€œGirl On The Billboardโ€ topped the Hot Country Singles chart. It also did quite well on the Canadian RPM Top Singles chart, where it peaked at No. 31.

โ€œKing Of The Roadโ€ by Roger Miller from โ€˜The Return Of Roger Millerโ€™

This cynical humor-drenched country tune is easily one of Roger Millerโ€™s most famous songs. If not his most famous song period. โ€œKing Of The Roadโ€ scored a whopping five Grammy Awards in 1966 and was a crossover hit on several charts. It topped the US country charts and the UK pop charts. “King Of The Road” also reached No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the US.

โ€œBefore You Goโ€ by Buck Owens from โ€˜Before You Goโ€™

I couldnโ€™t leave Buck Owens off this list, considering he was a constant figure on the country charts in 1965 with many honky tonk tunes loved by baby boomers around the US. I went with โ€œBefore You Goโ€ for this list, considering the tune was a No. 1 hit on the Hot Country Singles chart. Listen to it once, and youโ€™ll probably never forget it. This was classic country music at its finest.
