Last Friday it was reported that Fuego Entertainment had obtained over 200 live performances and tracks by legendary performer Jimi Hendrix. However, Fuegoโs statement saying they had, โacquired North American rights to over 200 live performance/live music tracks by legendary performer Jimi Hendrixโ is being refuted by Experience Hendrix. Experience Hendrix, a company which began in 1995 has overseen and owned all music related rights of the works by legendary guitarist Jimi Hendrix. It was founded by his father and only living heir, the late James Allen Hendrix.
It appears that the former record company, Purple Haze, previously marketed the collection of inferior bootleg recordings including previously released and never released live performance titles like โRainbow Bridge Concert,โ โAre ou Experienced And More,โ and โAn Evening With The Jimi Hendrix.โ They were sued by Experience Hendrix in the UK in 2006. The English High Court ruled that the now out of business record company had no legal rights to release the recordings and prohibited any further releases of the like. An appeal was made by John Hillman, Haze’s alleged licensor on May 24th of last year;
The London Court of Appeal upheld the 2006 verdict.
