What in the name of pop-punk is Fall Out Boy doing? For weeks, the band has been cryptically teasing what seems to be a forthcoming album, using avenues like newspaper ads, postcards, and an acid trip of a claymation video to fuel fans’ speculations.
The latest of their tactics has come in the form of a fan newsletter. Paragraphs rife with seemingly nonsensical phrasing, the letter reads sentences like “The Slow and steady press of thumbs to tiny glass” before getting to their point and hinting at their long-awaited comeback.

“We spent the last year jamming ideas in a tiny room [and] can’t wait to share them with you,” the band writes in conclusion. They added, “Thanks for always sticking around. Thanks for working the beat. Spoiler alert: we got more than a gold watch coming for you next year.”

The band first began teasing their eighth album with mysterious blacked-out ads in the Chicago Tribune, reading “FOB 8” and “If you build it, they will come.” The speculation of new music was further fueled when Fall Out Boy fans began receiving postcards, heralding “Greetings from: Pink Seashell Beach.”
The postcards all contained the same message: “I saw you in a bright clear field. Hurricane heat in my head. The kind of pain you feel to get good in the end. Inscribed like stone and faded by the rain: ‘Give up what you love give up what you love before it does you in…’”
Another teaser recently arrived in the form of a claymation video, titled A Claymation Fall Out Boy Celebration. Ending with a snippet of a thrashing song, the video presumably teases one of the band’s new songs from the coming album.
A new record would mean Fall Out Boy’s first since the release of the 2018 LP, Mania.
