Apparently three years in Vietnamese jail hasn’t stopped former British glam rocker, Gary Glitter from pursuing his dreams. The flamboyant โ70s glitz-meister, most famous for sports anthem, “Rock n’ Roll (Part 2),” has announced plans to continue work on an “unfinished album” following his August release from prison.
Glitter, real name Paul Francis Gadd, was jailed in 2005 when he tried to flee Vietnam due to escape child molestation charges. It turns out the โDo You Wanna Touch Meโ rocker committed โobscene acts with children,โ two 10- and 11-year-old girls from the southern coastal city of Vung Tau where he had been vacationing.
The three years of jail time have given Glitter, 64, time to think about some things.ย The Peopleโs Public Securitynewspaper of Vietnam quoted the rocker as saying, โI have been thinking about the plan during my days in jailโ. The โplan,โ you ask? Thatโs the album heโs been cooking up.
Glitter isnโt wasting time organizing where heโll be headed upon his release. He told the state-run Vietnam newspaper, โI will contact my friends and lawyers to decide where is the best place to live, but probably Hong Kong or Singapore.โ Probably because Hong Kong has no particular regulations on letting convicted sex offenders enter the territory. So why not return to his homeland of jolly olโ England? Hong Kongโsย South China Morning Postreported his reasons for staying away from Britain are that he would be listed on the Sex Offenders Registry for a 1999 conviction for possession of child pornography. Letโs face it, thatโs embarrassing.
In spite of it all, Mr. Glitter has remained resolute. โI have sung rock nโ roll for 40 years. After jail, I will continue rock nโ rollโ. Watch out, Asia.
