George Harrison Hidden Gems: 4 Songs You’ve Never Heard

George Harrison penned quite a few excellent songs through the years, both in The Beatles and throughout his solo career. A few hits are still memorable today, but there are also a few George Harrison hidden gems out there that are quite underrated. Some diehard Harrison (and Beatles) fans might scoff at the mention of these four tracks, but some not-so-diehard fans may not have even heard them. They are worth mentioning, at least, for the sake of rediscovering a few classics.

1. โ€œYour Love Is Foreverโ€

Quite a few different genres (notably punk) were big when Harrison released his self-titled record back in 1979. Itโ€™s an incredibly timeless piece of work that shined in a sea of new types of music. It could have easily been seen as irrelevant, but it wasnโ€™t. โ€œYour Love Is Foreverโ€ is probably the best example of Harrisonโ€™s ability to make relevant and stunning traditional songs.

2. โ€œPisces Fishโ€

When it comes to George Harrison hidden gems, nothing is quite as underrated as โ€œPisces Fishโ€, in this writerโ€™s opinion. It was released after Harrisonโ€™s death on the record Brainwashed. Itโ€™s a unique and well-written achievement.

Harrison talks about the details of an average day, and it could get boring if he didnโ€™t ascend to lyrics about religion. Itโ€™s almost like an alien had spent some time on Earth and was reflecting, with a bit of negativity, on his time on our blue planet.

3. โ€œThatโ€™s The Way It Goesโ€

The 1982 album Gone Troppo doesnโ€™t get much love, even among the biggest Beatles fans. However, โ€œThatโ€™s The Way It Goesโ€ is one of the best tracks on that record, and it often gets overlooked in the context of the album as a whole. You can hear how disillusioned Harrison was starting to get with music, fame, and the world as a whole. Itโ€™s an oddly relatable piece of work.

4. โ€œAny Roadโ€

โ€œAny Roadโ€ is the opener of Harrisonโ€™s very last album, and itโ€™s a lovely introspective piece. He had been around the world, but ultimately understood that humanityโ€™s final destination was the only one that really mattered. โ€œIf you donโ€™t know where youโ€™re going / Any road will take you thereโ€ is one of the most beautiful lines Harrison ever wrote.
