The gloves were out on Monday night’s (April 17) episode of The Voice. It was the first round of Knockouts and hopefuls came out swinging for a chance at the Playoffs with the young Gina Miles coming out on top as a heavyweight.
The 18-year-old Illinois native flexed her vocal prowess before the all-star coaches โ Blake Shelton, Niall Horan, Chance the Rapper, and Kelly Clarkson with celebrity mentor Reba McEntire โ with a captivating performance of Gotye’s โSomebody That I Used to Know.โ

She came out on stage with a full voice, impressing the coaches with power and range. While her stage presence lacked movement and dramatics, her unique falsetto and emotional interpretation had each of the veteran artists before her enthralled by her performance.
A member of Team Niall, Miles was pitted against another of the former One Direction star’s contestants, Kate Cosentino, who followed up her display with a rock-heavy rendition of Blondie’s โCall Me.โ
Ultimately, it was Miles who secured her place in the competition, given another chance to continue on to the Playoffs.
Check out her performance below.
Miles was a standout performer from the very beginning, causing her own battle between coaches Kelly and Niall from her blind audition. Both wanted the vocal sensation for their own teams after hearing her stunning rendition of Katy Perryโs โThe One That Got Away.โ
They were all especially blown away by her timid speaking voice, a soft-spoken comparison to her powerhouse vocals.
โI love voices with so much character like youโve got,โ Horan told her then. โThat was incredible to see you get up there and really hit those notes with proper control. For such a young girl, itโs incredible.โ
“Your beautiful eyes were closed, but I turned around way before him,โ Clarkson joked. “You had me in the beginning when it was a beautiful whisper how you were sounding and then it exploded in the chorus.โ
By the end of the coaches’ back and forth, Horan was her pick.
