While Jack Russell started playing with Mark Kendall during the late 1970s, the team that would eventually make up Great White took a break when Russell went to prison for 18 months. After serving his time, the singer returned to working with Kendall. Throughout the band’s history, Great White produced hit songs like “House of Broken Love” and “Once Bitten Twice Shy.” Although touring with groups like Guns N’ Roses, Judas Priest, and Kiss, in July, Russell announced his retirement from touring. And sadly, not even a month later – the rockstar passed away at just 63 years old.
Although sharing such a rich legacy in rock and roll, the passing of Russell came after he revealed he suffered from Lewy body dementia. At the time of his retirement, he told fans, “Words cannot express my gratitude for the many years of memories, love and support. Thank you for letting me live my dreams. You have made my life a wonder.”

On August 15, news broke about Russell’s passing as the Great White Facebook page wrote, “With tremendous sadness, we announce the loss of our beloved Jack Patrick Russell – father, husband, cousin, uncle, and friend. Jack passed peacefully in the presence of his wife Heather Ann Russell, son Matthew Hucko, cousin Naomi Breshears Barbor, and dear friends Bill and Cheryl Pawelcik.” The band added, “Jack is loved and remembered for his sense of humor, exceptional zest for life, and unshakeable contribution to rock and roll where his legacy will forever thrive.”

Fans Remember Jack Russell And The Great White
With Russell’s family and friends asking for privacy as they process the news, fans rallied around the singer, offering their love and support. “How sad. Rock in Peace Jack! Prayers and deepest condolences to the Ohana.” Another person continued, “I first saw him and his band in the early 80’s at the Woodstock in Anaheim before they got signed. They were called Dante Fox. He was a great singer and I knew they were destined to get a deal.”
While leaving behind both family and friends, Russell’s legacy in rock and roll continues to share his love for music.
