Is ‘American Idol’ New Tonight? Everything You Need To Know (3/23/25)

With American Idol returning for season 23, Sundays are dedicated to watching Lionel Richie, Luke Bryan, and Carrie Underwood search for the next hit singer. Although kicking off just a few weeks ago, the judges continued to meet aspiring artists throughout the audition phase of the show. But like any show, American Idol has taken breaks in the past due to scheduling conflicts or other big events. As for tonight, here are all the details about if there is a new episode, what to expect, and where to watch.ย

Thankfully, fans of American Idol wonโ€™t have to wait as the show will air a new episode tonight. With the auditions coming to an end on March 30th, singers clamored to put on their best performance, looking to win over the judges. And so far, fans met some talented singers including Filo Ebid, Isaiah Moore, and Mikaela Bautista. Just a few of the singers making it onto the next round, the competition is sure to heat up once the auditions are closed.ย

Already loving her time on the show, Underwood shared a heartfelt message about getting the chance to watch the auditions for a second time. With the shows already recorded, she wrote on Twitter, โ€œSuch a great episode of @AmericanIdol tonight. Iโ€™ve already seen all of these auditions and Iโ€™m being blown away for the second time. What a blessing to be a part of it allโ€ฆagain.โ€

The One Icon Who Isn’t A Fan Of ‘American Idol’

Sadly, not every person is a fan of American Idol. Speaking with Rolling Stone, the legendary Elton John advised rising stars to steer away from shows like American Idol and The X Factor. Instead, he wanted them to simply perform no matter the place or how small the audience was. “Just keep trying to play live. Thatโ€™s the way you improve as a musician and songwriter. It doesnโ€™t matter if youโ€™re playing to 40 people.โ€

Recalling his own past, John explained how playing for โ€œhardly anybodyโ€ helped him grow a backbone. “That experience stood me in great stead for when I became Elton John because I had backbone. And backbone is so important, because the worst thing that can happen to you in the industry are things like ‘X Factor’ and instant fame on television where you have no experience of playing live.โ€ He added, “‘American Idol’ – just the worst.”

With John wanting to see artists succeed, he insisted, โ€œTake risks, Go and play in a pub.โ€

While American Idol is larger than a pub, donโ€™t miss a new episode airing tonight at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT on ABC and available to stream the next day on Hulu.
