Joe Purdy played American Songwriter‘s 2010 South by Southwest day party, co-hosted by XO Publicity and Future Sounds. In the videos below, shot in Austin, Texas, last March, Purdy discusses the Voice Project, a non-profit that raises money for Northern Uganda through a unique “cover chain,” in which artists cover their favorite songs in video episodes, and create a chain connecting each artist. For the Voice Project, Purdy covers R.E.M., who’s own Mike Mills recently covered Billy Bragg, who covered Joanna Newsom, and so on.
Similar to the videos of Lissie from South by Southwest that we previously posted, the Purdy videos were produced by Plays Well With Others, an organization which connects bands and the social causes that are important to them.
Purdy recently released Fourth of July. For more info on that album, visit his site here.
