Jung Kook Will Headline This Year’s Global Citizen Festival

Global Citizen Festival announced on Wednesday (September 6) that BTS member Jung Kook will be a headlining performer at this year’s upcoming celebration. The festival will be held at Central Park in New York City on September 23. Other headliners at the gig include Megan Thee Stallion, Stray Kids, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Anitta, Conan Gray, Lauryn Hill, and others.

The festival is a free event that raises awareness of extreme poverty, urging leaders to end the crisis. The event will be broadcast live on ABC. Admission to the festival is free of charge but concertgoers will have to join the Global Citizenโ€™s advocacy campaign in order to get in. In addition to the musical guests, celebs like Common, Gayle King, Jordan Fisher, Sophia Bush, Busy Philipps, Bill Nye, and Carmelo Anthony will appear in some capacity.

Jung Kook released a statement regarding the festival, per Variety. โ€œIโ€™m so thrilled to join this yearโ€™s Global Citizen Festival as a headliner!” the K-pop superstar said. “The festival sheds light on important causes and drives action and Iโ€™m happy to take part in it. I canโ€™t wait to perform in front of many people at the Great Lawn in Central Park.โ€

Also according to Variety, Anne Beathe Tvinnereim, the Norwegian minister of international development for theย Global Citizenโ€™s advocacy campaign, released a statement regarding the goals of the campaign. โ€œExtreme poverty, hunger and food insecurity threaten lives and health,” Tvinnereim said. “The call for action is crystal clear: We need to increase investments in climate-robust, small-scale food production.”

Jung Kook recently dethroned his own band as the most streamed K-pop act on Spotify. BTS is currently on hiatus as its individual members pursue solo opportunities. Jung Kook currently pulls in about 35,407,241 streams a month as a solo artist on the popular streaming service.

Jung Kook’s latest single, “Seven,” a collaboration with Latto, dropped in July.
