Co-penned by Brown, the song, โFor My Daughter,โ reunites the โbreakthroughโ (Associated Press) singer/songwriter with Tom Douglas; the two co-wrote โCold Spotโ which is featured on Brownโs Platinum multi-week No. 1 self-titled debut album. Chase McGill also co-wrote โFor My Daughterโ; McGillโs first No. 1 country airplay single as a co-writer was โLose It,โ the Platinum lead single from Brownโs No. 1 Billboard 200 debuting sophomore album, Experiment.
โI wrote this song when I found out we were officially going to become parents. I meant every word, and cannot wait to watch her grow up,โ Brown shared about โFor My Daughter.โ
Known for the raw honesty in his lyrics, the โfuture of Countryโ (Billboard) has candidly detailed his upbringing in earlier hits, including the autobiographical viral song, โLearning,โ from his debut album. An earlier preview of โFor My Daughterโ on Brownโs socials received millions of views in less than 48 hours.
โFor My Daughterโ Lyrics:
Someone to play catch with out back in the yard
To pick up the pieces of your first broken heart
Someone to say slow down when you turn sixteen
I grew up without a dad Iโm gonna be the best one I can be
Someone to scare the monsters, when itโs dark in your room
Someone to put their foot down when you want a tattoo
Not just say I love you but show you what it means
I grew up without a dad Iโm gonna be the best one I can be
They say dadโs are supposed to shape you and in a way I guess mine did
I knew what I wouldnโt do if I ever had a kid
They say history repeats itโs self well I guess thatโs up to me
I grew up without a dad Iโm gonna be the best one I can be
Someone to let you fall down and teach you how to get back up
Teach you how to be sweet like mamma and how to be tough
Iโll never be perfect but sure as those lines are pink
I grew up without a dad Iโm gonna be the best one I can be
(Repeat chorus)
I canโt change the past but the past has sure changed me
I grew up without a dad Iโm gonna be the best one I can be
Yeah Iโm gonna be a dad and Iโm gonna be the best one I can be
