Katy Perry is reportedly not tuning into American Idol this season. A source claimed to The U.S. Sun that the pop star “doesn’t even watch” Idol on which she served as a judge for seven seasons.
After Perry’s departure, she was replaced by Carrie Underwood. Given that Perry hasn’t watched this season, she “hasn’t seen” Underwood in her former role, so she has “no opinion” of the country singer’s performance, the source claimed.

“Katy wishes the show and everyone there well, she still views it as a positive overall,” the source told the outlet. “She just graduated from that chapter and has no interest in going back.”
As for why she wouldn’t return, the source said that Perry found the experience to be “suffocating in a way due to being under the Disney contract and needing to film so many weeks of the year and having to answer to people she would not normally have to answer to.”
Now, in contrast, Perry “feels more like herself,” the source claimed.
“She is a pop star to the core and her team all felt like the show was holding her back,” the source alleged. “She felt that too.”
Katy Perry’s Trip to Space
Perry may not have have her Idol responsibilities any more, but that doesn’t mean she isn’t busy. The singer is gearing up for the start of her Lifetimes Tour. The world tour will kick off later this month in Mexico, before legs in the U.S., Australia, Canada, South America, and Europe.
While she’ll be traveling a ton in the coming months, she won’t be going any further than she did on April 14. It was then that Perry, along with Gayle King and others, journeyed to space on Blue Origin’s rocket.
After returning from space, King told the media that Perry sang for the group during the flight.
“We’ve been asking her to sing ‘Roar’ and ‘Firework’ and she said ‘It’s not about me. I want to talk about the world,’” King said of Perry, who wound up singing “It’s a Wonderful World.” “It was really special.”
Perry reacted to her song choice in a statement, telling the media, “I think that it’s not about me, it’s not about singing my songs. It’s about a collective energy.”
