NEW YORK, Sept. 29, 2016 — ASCAP, the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, the world leader in performing rights and advocacy for music creators, today announced that global pop icon and singer-songwriter Katy Perry has renewed her agreement with the society. ASCAP will continue to license public performances of her successful songwriting catalog throughout the world.

โ€œASCAP was in my corner before anyone knew who I was,โ€ said Perry. โ€œThatโ€™s one of the many reasons Iโ€™m loyal to them. Theyโ€™ve always believed in me and my music, and theyโ€™re great at supporting and protecting their members. ASCAPโ€™s a vital part of my team.โ€

With well over 100 million records sold globally, Katy Perry is one of the most successful radio and recording artists of all time. Her #1 2008 single โ€œI Kissed a Girlโ€ began an unstoppable streak of global hits, including milestones like Teenage Dream, the first album by a female artist to yield five #1 Billboard Hot 100 singles โ€“ โ€œCalifornia Gurls,โ€ โ€œTeenage Dream,โ€ โ€œFirework,โ€ โ€œE.T.โ€ and โ€œLast Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)โ€ – all co-written by Perry. In total, Perry has accumulated nine #1 singles on the Billboard Hot 100, most recently “Dark Horse” from her double-platinum third album, PRISM. Perryโ€™s performance at the 2015 Super Bowl Halftime Show set a Guinness World Record for the most watched halftime show in Super Bowl history. Most recently, NBC featured Perryโ€™s newest single โ€œRiseโ€ throughout its coverage of the Rio Olympics.

โ€œKaty Perry has entertained and empowered millions of fans around the world with her brilliant music,โ€ said ASCAP CEO Elizabeth Matthews. โ€œASCAP is thrilled to begin a new chapter in our long, enduring relationship with Katy, who is beloved by radio and streaming listeners everywhere and one of the great songwriter-artists of our time.โ€

2016 marks the 10-year anniversary of Katy Perryโ€™s membership with ASCAP. Perry played an ASCAP SXSW acoustic showcase in 2008, months before the release of her breakthrough album One of the Boys, and gave a keynote interview at the 2013 ASCAP โ€œI Create Musicโ€ EXPO.
