Kelly Clarkson is taking some time away from the spotlight. Days after Clarkson’s ex, Brandon Blackstock, died, Band Together Texas announced that the singer would no longer perform at the benefit concert.
“Unfortunately, Kelly Clarkson will be unable to appear at Band Together Texas as planned, due to personal circumstances,” the concert’s organizers revealed on Instagram. “We send our love to Kelly and her family.”

The benefit concert isn’t the only show Clarkson has opted out of. Just one day before Blackstock’s death, the singer postponed several shows in her Las Vegas residency.
As for the reason for the postponement, Clarkson wrote on Instagram that “my children’s father has been ill.” Clarkson’s post marked the first time fans learned of Blackstock’s health woes.
Clarkson and Blackstock were married from 2013 to 2022. They share two children, River, 11, and Remington, 9. Blackstock died on Aug. 7 after a private cancer battle.
“It is with great sadness that we share the news that Brandon Blackstock has passed away,” a rep for Blackstock’s family told People. “Brandon bravely battled cancer for more than three years. He passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family. We thank you for your thoughts and prayers and ask everyone to respect the family’s privacy during this very difficult time.”
A source later claimed to Page Six that Clarkson had been “looking after” her ex amid his health battle.
“It’s been exhausting and so sad,” the source said. “… Kelly has been working so hard, as well as looking after Brandon. Despite their difficult divorce, he’s still the man she loved and still her kids’ father.”
What to Know About Band Together Texas
While Clarkson will no longer perform at the concert, fans still have a great show to look forward to.
Miranda Lambert worked to put together Band Together Texas after the devastating floods in the Lone Star State.
Set to be held on Aug. 17 in Austin, the concert will feature performances by Lambert, Parker McCollum, Cody Johnson, Ronnie Dunn, Lyle Lovett, and more. Stars including Matthew McConaughey and Dennis Quaid are also scheduled to make appearances at the show.
Those who can’t attend in person can still enjoy the fun, as the concert will be livestreamed on Facebook and YouTube, Lambert revealed.
The concert will benefit Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country and Central Texas Community Foundation.
