Kenny Wayne Shepherd Readies New Album ‘Dirt on My Diamonds Vol. 1’

Grammy-nominated guitarist Kenny Wayne Shepherd has announced a batch of tour dates for winter 2024, which will support the release of his upcoming new album, Dirt on My Diamonds, Vol. 1.

According to a press release, the tour will kick off in Orlando on February 6 at the Hard Rock Live and will then head out west for a Texas run, starting in Tyler at the UT Cowan Center on February 14, before concluding at the ACL Moody Theater in Austin on February 17. Performances are also to take place at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville on February 24 and at the Beacon Theatre in New York City on March 15.

Shepherd is set to release his new album Dirt on My Diamonds Vol. 1 on November 17 under Provogue Records/Mascot Label Group. It features the lead single “Sweet & Low.” In a press release, Shepherd said of the single, “People I’ve played the album for, they consistently have the biggest reaction to that one.”

Shepherd recorded the album at FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, and a release notes that it finds the blue-rock player diving into stories of loss, redemption, and significant memories. “Every record I make is a moment in time,” he said. “And this is a really special moment.”

He collaborated once more with Marshall Altman to create the LP. “It’s like any productive relationship,” Shepherd said. “We put our strengths together and push each other.”

In terms of the album’s sound and mood, Shepherd apparently didn’t want a “dark or dreary” sound. “There’s not a lot of incredibly heart-wrenching or difficult subject matter…my goal is always to make music that makes people feel good, regardless of what it’s about.”

Tickets for the tour going on sale this Friday, September 22 at 10 a.m. local time.
