Lainey Wilsonโs New Dream Job
Lainey Wilson has already clearly established herself as a successful musician with seven CMA awards (including their 2023 Entertainer of the Year Award), a Grammy, and six Academy of Country Music Awards. Sheโs also a beloved feature of the hit series Yellowstone, where she plays an aspiring country star named Abby.
According to Wilson during her Taste of Country Nights interview, sheโs ready to get back on set. โIโd like to be in a sitcom,โ the singer admitted. โBut Iโd also like to do some voice acting. If you need a redneck cartoon, I got you.โ
Wilson would certainly be in good company if she made the jump to voice acting. Other country stars who made that same transition include Dolly Parton, who voiced a cartoon version of herself on The Simpsons in 1999. Reba McEntire played characters like Dixie in The Fox and the Hound 2 and Charlotteโs Web. Perhaps the most iconic country-to-voice-actor crossover was Roger Miller, who played Alan-a-Dale, the singing rooster from Disneyโs original Robin Hood.
The Country Star Found Common Ground In Acting
During an August 2024 interview with Etalk Presents, Lainey Wilson discussed what it was like joining the Yellowstone cast as a relatively new actor. She gushed over โgetting to be around some of the best actors and actresses that I have ever seen. This is my first time dipping my toes into anything like this and to be able to just kind of stand side stage and watch them do their thing.โ
Wilson also mentioned Kelly Reilly, who plays Beth Dutton, the fierce patriarch of the Montana-based series. The country star said watching Reilly transform into her tough-as-nails character was a lot like how Wilson prepares to go onstage. Wilsonโs time on the Yellowstone set helped solidify the similarities between acting and playing music, which certainly helped the โHeart Like a Truckโ singer strengthen both skills.
โWhat Iโve learned is I just like being creative,โ Wilson said. โSo, Iโd love to do some more.โ While there donโt seem to be any immediate plans for Wilson to take on voice acting roles, weโd say her distinct southern twang would make for a recognizable characterโsimilarly to how Tom Petty used his natural nasal drawl to play Elroy โLuckyโ Kleinschmidt, his character on King of the Hill.
