Lars Ulrich Confirms Metallica Sphere Rumors While Teasing Another Major Stage: “A Dream Come True”

While Metallica held several awards, the bandโ€™s most significant achievement came from their ability to play all over the world. Loving the power that comes from a live performance, the band made history in 2013 when they performed a concert in Antarctica. Becoming the first band to play in all seven continents, Metallica set their sights on one of the newest venues that offered an experience like no other – the Las Vegas Sphere.ย

Costing nearly $2 billion to build, the Sphere gave bands the ability to transport the audience into their world. With the dome featuring cutting-edge technology, some considered it to be the ultimate venue. Speaking with Howard Stern, Lars Ulrich revealed that Metallica had already visited the venue. โ€œIโ€™m not going to confirm anything, because thereโ€™s nothing to confirm. But Iโ€™m not going to deny it, because weโ€™re all such fans of this venue. All of our managers and our production people have been there and looked at it.โ€

With Metallica preparing to head overseas in 2026 for a summer tour, Ulrich admitted, โ€œItโ€™s something that weโ€™re considering, [but] nothing is etched in stone or green-lit. Itโ€™s something that weโ€™re looking at at some point when the 2026 tour is done.” Having seen the power of the Sphere when watching U2 perform, he added, โ€œIโ€™m not going to bulls**t you, I would f***ing love to do it, let there be no question about it. Itโ€™s not signed, sealed and delivered, but speaking to me and asking my opinion I would f***ing love to do it.”

Metallica Might Be The Perfect Fit For Super Bowl LX

Outside of Ulrichโ€™s thoughts on the Sphere, it seemed that Metallica also looked to one of the biggest stages in the United States – the Super Bowl. When asked by Stern if they would perform a halftime show if asked, the drummer didnโ€™t waste a moment. “F*** yeah of course we would.”

Though playing the Super Bowl is a dream for most bands, this yearโ€™s game lands in San Francisco -Metallicaโ€™s backyard. Creating Metallica during the 1980s in Los Angeles, Ulrich explained, โ€œTo do it in San Francisco would be a dream come true and would be the right fit. We havenโ€™t been approached. …Certainly as somebody whoโ€™s represented San Francisco all over the world and shouted for decades about San Francisco and our love for the Bay Area, that part of it is the right fit.โ€

Although loving the idea, Metallicaโ€™s dreams are just that, as Ulrich reminded fans, โ€œUltimately itโ€™s not our decision.”ย
