With the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame playing home to legendary singers and bands, the organization announced a new lineup of nominees that included Phish, The White Stripes, Outkast, Oasis, and even Cyndi Lauper. Allowing fans the chance to vote on their favorite performers, over two million votes were placed. While Oasis took over headlines when the group decided to get back together, they didn’t even make it into the top five. And when looking at the top spot, it appeared that one legendary rock band formed during the 1980s led by over 50,000 votes.
While able to support their favorite artists, fans only have until April 21st to cast their vote. Looking at the current standings, the top 14 consisted of Oasis, Outkast, Mariah Carey, and The Black Crowes. But when moving up to the top 5, Soundgarden, Lauper, Billy Idol, and Bad Company appeared to battle it out for second place. With each holding over 200,000 votes, none came close to the rock band Phish.

Although Phish became eligible for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame back in 2014, 2025 marked the first year the band was nominated. And by the looks of it, fans were waiting for the organization to finally recognize Trey Anastasio, Mike Gordon, John Fishman, and Jeff Holdsworth. While Holdsworth helped create the band, he left a few years later, being replaced by Page McConnell.

Thrilled about being nominated and the outpour of support from fans, Anastasio told GQ, “It’s an honor and a thrill, a recognition of our whole scene, of our community. That was the first thing we all talked about—that it’s a celebration of this community. You know I’m not making that up, because you’re in it, in the community.”
While waiting over a decade for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame to shine a line on Phish, Anastasio showed no animosity toward the organization. Instead, he once again turned his attention to the fans. “I think it’s such a celebration of a community, because we’ve always stood left of center, always, from the beginning. But what we’ve always had going for us is this incredibly strong connection with our fans, our community. We’ve grown at an organic pace, which has probably been the best gift we ever could have received as a band. The roots are strong now. It’s been 40 years.”
Even with a few days left to vote, it’s incredibly clear that the fans made their voices heard when supporting Phish.
