The Secret Sisters have had a busy year following their discovery at an audition in October 2009 and subsequent signing to Universal. Hailing from Muscle Shoals, Alabama, real-life siblings Laura and Lydia Rogers quickly attracted the attention of Jack White, who released their debut 45 (a cover of Johnny Cash’s “Big River”) on his own Third Man Records last month.
With their retro ethos, itโs easy to understand why. More than just Bettie Page bangs and red lipstick, the sistersโ dedication to doing things the old-fashioned way led them to ban computers and everything digital from the recording of their debut at Nashvilleโs Blackbird Studios.
Executive-produced by T Bone Burnett, the 10 tracks feature a combination of classic covers and original songs. Flavored with touches from theย ’40s and ’50s, the Secret Sistersโ country-folk sound shows their Southern roots. The self-titled album will be released on October 12 on Burnettโs new imprint Beladroit. The Secret Sisters will hit the road with Burnett as a part of The Speaking Clock Revue, featuring Elton John & Leon Russell, John Mellencamp, Elvis Costello, Gregg Allman, Ralph Stanley, Jeff Bridges, Punch Brothers, and Karen Elson.
