Miley Cyrus Gives Fans “Clarity” on Recent Touring Comments

Miley Cyrus recently declared that she’s pressing pause on touring and won’t perform her latest album, Endless Summer Vacation, live. 

In an interview published by British Vogue, the hitmaker said her interests and desires no longer align with life on the road. 

“Singing for hundreds of thousands of people isn’t really the thing that I love,” Cyrus told the publication. “After the last [arena] show I did, I looked at it as more of a question. And I can’t. Not only can’t, because can’t is your capability, but my desire. Do I want to live my life for anyone else’s pleasure or fulfillment other than my own?”

Following the statement, Cyrus received backlash from disappointed fans. The “Flowers” singer turned to social media Wednesday afternoon (May 24) to address her fanbase and explain her point of view.

“For clarity, I feel connected to my fans NOW more than ever. When I win, WE win,” she wrote on Instagram. “Even if I don’t see them face to face every night at a concert, my fans are felt deeply in my heart. I’m constantly creating and innovating new ways that I can stay connected to the audience I love – without sacrificing my own essentials.” 

Cyrus continued to reflect on her career and the years spent traveling to deliver music worldwide. She clarified that the touring lifestyle is keeping her from the spotlight, not the fans. 

“Performing for YOU has been some of the best days of my life & we will continue this journey together as we have for the last almost two decades,” noted the former Disney Channel star. “This has nothing to do with a lack of appreciation for the fans & everything to do with I simply don’t want to get ready in a locker room. Which is the reality of life on the road.” 

As fans rallied behind the platinum-selling performer, other musicians in the industry flocked to the comments to share their perspectives on the harsh reality of touring. 

“Sleeping on a moving bus is literal hell. I’m right there with u, Miley,” said OneRepublic’s Ryan Tedder.

“I totally get this, and you do, you girl. You owe nothing to us, and we love your music. Do you, I respect it,” wrote fast-rising artist Sally Shaar. 

“How about a Vegas residency then?” asked ROSSI, a singer/songwriter.

Despite not touring, her latest collection is receiving positive praise.

Cyrus recently celebrated a career milestone, as her eight-week Billboard Hot 100 track “Flowers” also became the “fastest song to reach 1 billion streams in Spotify history.” Before joining the Billions Club, Cyrus also delivered a documentary-like concert called Backyard Sessions on Disney + to share exclusive insights on her collection.
