Noel Gallagher is not one to look back in anger. He’d rather just quit the band.
In a statement on their MySpace page, the embattled British band’s chief songwriter Noel Gallagher announced that he’s left Oasis. Again.
“It’s with some sadness and great relief to tell you that I quit Oasis tonight,” wrote Gallagher. “People will write and say what they like, but I simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer. Apologies to all the people who bought tickets for the shows in Paris, Konstanz, and Milan.”
Gallagher has left the band at least once before — in 2000 the band cancelled a world tour because of it. Oasis’ latest album, Dig Out Your Soul, was released in 2008. Allegedly, the last straw for Noel came when brother Liam broke his guitar backstage after a gig.
At press time, Liam has not responded, but their mother, Peggy Gallagher, had spoken up. โI’m convinced the band will reunite,” she told The Mirror, “because they do love each other very much, but theyโve always been very different. The funny thing is, they didnโt fight as children. They didnโt fight until they started the band. โI hope this isnโt the end of Oasis. I donโt think it is. Theyโre just tired at the end of the tour. Theyโve had fights before and got over it.โ
