It looks like The Who fans are finally getting what theyโve been waiting for! The iconic rock band behind Quadrophenia and Whoโs Next will kick off a tour next year in 2025, according to The Who co-founder Pete Townshend himself.
The news comes as a surprise, considering The Who has not been particularly active in 2024 sans a cancer benefit show in March. They also have not toured since their 2019-2021 tour, which spanned a whopping 56 concerts across North America and the United Kingdom.

In a recent interview with The London Standard, Townshend said that there will be some Who activity next year. Though, the famed guitarist didnโt exactly give out many details.
โI met with Roger for lunch a couple of weeks ago,โ said Townshend in the interview. โWeโre in good form. We love each other. Weโre both getting a bit creaky, but we will definitely do something next year.โ
For reference, Townshend is 79 years old and Roger Daltrey is 80 years old. But age isnโt stopping these legendary musicians from hitting the road, it seems.
Will The Who Release New Music Next Year While on Tour in 2025?
Unfortunately, The Who might not be releasing any new music anytime soon; at the very least, fans shouldnโt expect an entire record. Townshend clarified that he and Daltrey were planning a tour, rather than a new album.
The announcement comes as a surprise, as Daltrey recently said that live performances and touring were โfinancially stressful.โย
โI donโt know if weโll ever come back to tour America,โ Daltrey said in the interview. โI never say never, but at the moment itโs very doubtful.โ
Clearly, Daltreyโs changed his mind; though Townshend didnโt mention an American tour, specifically. And according to Townshend, Daltrey isnโt exactly interested in working on a new album.
โI would love to do another album and I may try to bully him on that,โ said Townshend. โThe last big tours that weโve done have been with a full orchestra, which was glorious, but weโre now eager to make a noise and make a mess and make mistakes.โ
Earlier in 2024, Daltrey kicked off a very successful solo trek. Perhaps that changed his mind about touring.
As it currently stands, neither Daltrey nor Townshend have provided any substantial details on where and when the tour will take place. No dates have been announced as of this writing. However, Townshendโs comments have us feeling very hopeful. Stay tuned for more details!
