Phil Collins’ son, Nic Collins, boasts drumming talents that are quite similar to his father’s own. That much was made clear in a recent video from Drumeo.
Collins previously appeared on Drumeo in the past, and he was given the challenge of playing Opeth’s famous song “Ghost Of Perdition” after hearing it just once. Naturally, he did a fantastic job. Now, in a recent video, Collins was tasked with learning and playing “2112” by Rush in just one sitting.

Any fan of Rush is likely scoffing at that. The “2112” suite is infamously difficult to play. However, the son of the Genesis icon absolutely crushed his first attempt.

Nic Collins Demolishes “2112” by Rush After Just Three Hours of Learning the Suite
The suite “2112” is composed entirely of the first side of Rush’s famed 1976 album of the same name. The OG suite is about 20 minutes long and contains a number of songs, from “Overture” to “Grand Finale”. The whole suite is made up of seven songs total.
In the clip, Collins has to play the whole thing sans the third song “Discovery”, as that track does not feature a drum track. Collins, always humble, bemoaned the task ahead of him.
“Why do you have to be so good, Neil [Peart]?” he said.
It was quite the task to take on, considering Neil Peart is one of the greatest drummers who has ever lived. Regardless, Collins learned each part and delivered an extremely impressive performance of six out of the seven songs of the suite. It was so good that Drumeo’s host, Brandon Toews, said that “Neil would be proud.” If I were in Collins’ shoes, I would never shut up about it.
Fans of both Rush and Collins took to the comments of the YouTube video with overwhelming positivity.
“When I saw the description, I thought he was going to learn ‘Overture’,” said one fan. “You made the man learn the entire side of the album?!”
“Nic [Collins] is an absolute legend,” said another.
I don’t know many drummers who could learn “2112” at all, let alone in under three hours. What a great advertisement for online drum lessons!
