Summer is approaching, and that means festival season is upon us.
There are a lot of impressive lineups already announced, but we have a special place in our hearts for Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival; this year boasts performances by Elton John, Jack White, Neutral Milk Hotel, The Avett Brothers and many more.
Recently, we sat it on our yearly Bonnaroo conference call, and spoke with Matthew Houck of Phosphorescent about his โRoo experience.
Houck played the festival back in 2011, and likened the dusty experience to the wild west.
โI remember a really sweaty rock and roll kind of show happening,โ he said. โLike a sense of wonder or something about the enormity of the festival, just how insane and huge it is.โ
He also gave fans a preview of the eagerly anticipated schedule.
โI actually donโt know what stage weโre playing but I gather that we have a little bit better of a time slot, maybe around sundown, I think is what I heard,โ he said.
Houck says he hasnโt thought about his set much past that, but offered up this insight.
โI think I have a tendency to play to the energy of the day or the night or whatever it is, in the room and the vibe,โ he said. โItโll be determined by whatโs happening in the air at the fest.โ
Aside from that Houck said we could expect the same show heโs spent the past year perfecting. After having one of his songs featured in the new Spider-Man movie, Houck says a cameo from the webslinger is more likely than any new material.
โMy people are in talks with his people,โ Houck said. โYou never can guarantee something like that, but that would be a dream collaboration.โ
