Selena Quintanilla-Perez shattered barriers in the Latin music world and helped put Tejano music on the map. The native Texan was at the pinnacle of her career when her life was tragically cut short at age 23. On March 31, 1995, Selena was shot and killed by by Yolanda Saldívar, the president of her fan club and manager of the singer’s Texas-based boutique and beauty salon, Selena Etc. But the “Como La Flor” singer’s legacy has outlived that horrific day. In fact, she’s still charting nearly 30 years later.
Selena Is Back On the Charts
By 1994, Selena had already established a tight-knit fan base. Now, the Tejano star was looking to broaden her audience. Amor Prohibido, her fourth studio album, accomplished that goal and much more. It became the first Tejano album to reach No. 1 on Top Latin Albums, spending 20 total weeks at the top spot.

Three decades later, Amor Prohibido is back on top. To mark its 30th anniversary, the iconic album has been released on vinyl for the first time. Selena aficionados can now own Amor Prohibido in four vinyl variants. And the remastered version made its No. 1 debut on Billboard’s Vinyl Albums chart.
Additionally, Amor Prohibido scored a spot on the Billboard 200, coming in at No. 69. This marks the album’s first week on the chart this century.
Selena has sent two records to the Vinyl Albums chart, and both have reigned supreme. Her greatest hits compilation Ones reached the top in 2020.

Fans React: “Timeless Body Of Work”
It’s hard not to daydream about what Selena would have become. The “Bidi Bidi Bom Bom” singer certainly blazed a trail in Latin music during her 14-year career.
“Damn sometimes I wonder if she would have been alive now , she probably would have been soooo successful and top of the game , she had everyone’s heart !!” one fan wrote on X/Twitter. “She’s a legend and her memory still lives on and forever will .”
Understandably, seeing Selena’s light still shining nearly 30 years after her death means the world to the Tejano singer’s fanbase.
“Queen of Latin Music, gave birth to a whole generation of Latin artists,” one fan wrote on X/Twitter. “Rest in Peace.”
Another fan added, “See what happens when you’re a timeless body of work.”
