Run-DMC Announces Final Show

Run-DMC is one of the most influential names in the history of hip-hop.

The group, formed in the 1980s, is getting its final bow later this spring. Their final show is slated for April at Madison Square Garden in the group’s hometown of New York City. The concert will also be part of an upcoming documentary about the legendary rap outfit.

Run-DMC’s Darryl “DMC” McDaniels shared the news in an interview with Rock the Bells, noting that the group’s decision is final. McDaniels is one of two living members of the original trio. The other is Joseph “Rev. Run” Simmons. Jam Master Jay (born Jason Mizell), the group’s DJ, died in 2002.

โ€œRun-DMC is over,โ€ the 58-year-old DMC told the publication. โ€œThe only way Run-DMC gets back together is if the Beatles get back together. Can that happen?โ€ย

He added: โ€œThe final show that we are ever going to do is going to be at Madison Square Garden in April. Itโ€™s going to be the last episode of the documentary weโ€™re doing.โ€

DMC also said that he and Rev. Run will do solo projects. โ€œRun-DMCโ€™s last show ever,” he said. “โ€˜Cause itโ€™s time for Run to go be Paul McCartney and me to be John Lennon. We done did what we could do.โ€

DMC said that the group’s final show will include big-name performers, including Ice-T and Wu-Tang Clan.

On January 21, what would have been the late Jam Master Jay’s 58th birthday, DMC and Rev. Run gave tribute to their fallen friend on the group’s social media accounts.

โ€œA contriver of style, flare and all things cool. The band, the sound, the glue,โ€ their message read. โ€œHappy birthday to our brother Jason โ€˜Jam Master Jayโ€™ Mizell! #ripjmj #yojay โ€˜THE BEST DJ IN THE US OF A!!โ€™โ€
