Snoop Dogg Covers Johnny Cash?

ย

ย In a rather surprising statement, Snoop Dogg said that heโ€™d โ€œlike to dedicate this record, right here, to my main man Johnny Cashโ€”a real American gangster.โ€ Snoop was, of course, referring to his ninth studio albumย Ego Trippin. But more recently, Mr. Dogg has something else in the works that hits closer to the Cash legacy.

In a rather surprising statement, Snoop Dogg said that heโ€™d โ€œlike to dedicate this record, right here, to my main man Johnny Cashโ€”a real American gangster.โ€ Snoop was, of course, referring to his ninth studio albumย Ego Trippin. But more recently, Mr. Dogg has something else in the works that hits closer to the Cash legacy.

His reference and reverence for fellow inmate, Johnny Cash, has now extended a little beyond album dedications. Snoop has been given the chance to cover a Cash tune, (maybe even the most famous one) on a Johnny Cash remix album. Yes, Cashโ€™s good name just had the words โ€œremix albumโ€ attached to it. Anyways, Snoop has recorded โ€œI Walk the Lineโ€ alongside Teddy Riley and DJ Quik from Cashโ€™s own studio in Hendersonville, Tenn.ย

Reports say that a documentary short film or as the kiddies say… a โ€œmaking of the videoโ€ will follow the release of the album.

In charge of producingย Johnny Cash Remixedย is Cashโ€™s own son John Carter Cash who is thrilled about the album. The CD will be released October 14 and vinyl is set to hit stores on September 23 from Compadre/World Music. Theremixedย line-up so far (in no particular order) is…

โ€œI Walk the Line,โ€ Snoop, Teddy Riley, and DJ Quik
โ€œFolsom Prison Blues,โ€ Pete Rock
โ€œDoinโ€™ My Time,โ€ The Heavy
โ€œLeave that Junk Alone,โ€ Alabama 3
โ€œBig River,โ€ Count De Money
โ€œBelshazzar,โ€ Machine Drum
โ€œCountry Boy,โ€ Sonny J
