While Joel Plaskett might be a familiar name to some, as he has won multiple JUNO Awards for his songwriting and ranked frequently on theย Polaris Music Prize Short List, Bill Plaskett might be a new one. That’s because Solidarity, the pair’s forthcoming LP, is Bill’s first album, anย achievement he gets to shareย with Joel, his son.
In advance of the release, the father and son duoย have shared their politically-fueled track “Blank Cheque.”ย “We sing of love with sadness, because this modern world is madness,” croons Joel over the folk-rock tune, which calls out capitalist greed and consumerism.
“You can’t eat money, and if you could it would still leave a bad taste in your mouth. True wealth is found with family, friends and community, not investment portfolios,” Joelย explains.
Known for songs that offerย social commentary, Joel stuck to his gunsย on this latest record.ย Solidarityย features songs influenced by theirย individual journeys as well as their collective values.
Solidarityย is slated to be released Feb. 17 viaย Pheromone Recordings.
