Songwriter Says: “This idea came to me after watching the Muscle Shoals documentary. It was such an inspiring time in music for me and I felt a connection to the term “river people” they referenced throughout the movie. ย Growing up in Memphis, we had the Mississippi River to shape and design the characteristics of our town and its people. ย So, it’s a love song of longing and perhaps sadness, inspired by this river girl. I took it to Kevin Welch, who helped me to finish it and give it its legs. ย He also played the Tele on this one. ย In a sense, each member of the band were like these “river people,” bringing their own style and story to the track. It’s my favorite on the album. ย It feels like home to me when I sing it.โ
