Canadian duo Dala rereleases their 2009 album Everyone Is Someone for US audiences today. Freshly signed to Compass Records, Amanda Walther and Sheila Carabine are bringing their brand of folk-pop to the States for the first time. For a taste of what those of us not in the Great White North have been missing out on, hereโs โLonely Girl.โ
The strings in the intro quickly gives way to let Carabineโs voice shine. Smooth and calm, she delivers a rejection to a superficial man, telling him, โIโm a lonely girl/And I could change the world and everything I am/But Iโd rather be alone than someone you take home.โ Waltherโs pristine harmonies add depth as the song builds. โLonely Girlโ is soothing in its acoustic simplicity and ready for American ears. (Bonus: check out the girls’ website, where they break down the cheesy romance novel they’ve been reading on tour.)
