Itโs been a difficult week for The Flaming Lips. Frequent collaborator and musical prodigy Nell Smith passed away in a car accident at the age of 17 on October 5. Now, another potential tragedy has struck the band. Charlotte โBowieโ Drozd, the 16-year-old daughter of Flaming Lips member and multi-instrumentalist Steven Drozd, has been reported missing as of October 5 at 11:30 am.
Drozd was last seen at the Seattle Space Needle. She was believed to have been traveling toward the downtown area of Seattle. The band posted a missing person flyer for Drozd yesterday.ย

Flaming Lips and Steven Drozd have posted on social media about Drozdโs disappearance. Fans and contemporaries alike have been pouring out prayers and well-wishes for the missing girl.
โManifesting she is found safe and this is all just one big misunderstanding,โ said one fan on Instagram.
โGodspeed,โ said Flea of Red Hot Chili Peppers, who also reposted the missing person flyer on his Instagram account.
Flaming Lipsโ Member Have Been Dealing With a Lot of Tragedy Recently
Charlotte Drozdโs disappearance occurred on the same day that Nell Smith, a young musical prodigy who has collaborated with Flaming Lips in the past, passed away after a car crash. The location and details of the accident have not yet been made available to the public.ย
The announcement of her death came from her family via Instagram yesterday, October 7. With the information provided thus far, it does not appear that Smithโs death and Drozdโs disappearance are related in any way.
During a performance on Sunday, October 6, Flaming Lipsโ frontman Wayne Coyne addressed Smithโs death. The band celebrated her life with a performance of the bandโs song โEverything Has Changedโ.
โWe are reminded once again of the power of music and how encouraging it can be to be around people that you love,โ Coyne said during the performance.
