Country roots front-runner Sturgill Simpson is back with his first new music since 2014’s Metamodern Sounds In Country Music, this time with “Sugar Daddy,” the southern rock stomper that will serve as the theme to HBO’s Vinyl.
Co-produced by Martin Scorsese and Mick Jagger, Vinyl follows the staff of a struggling New York City record company in 1973 as they do everything in their power to turn the company around. As Billboard reported, the show’s soundtrack includes contributions from artists like Otis Redding, Iggy Pop and Mott the Hoople, as well as tracks by Chris Cornell and Nate Ruess.
The series, which premieres Feb. 14, at 9 p.m. ET on HBO, features Bobby Cannavale, Olivia Wilde, Ray Romano and more. The soundtrack, Vinyl: Music From the HBO Original Series—Volume 1, will be released Feb. 12, with a follow up expected in April.
